The First Step – Choose Your Topic
Coming up with a great topic is simple: you are writing for your customer. Just address a question your customers often ask you. It doesn’t have to be a groundbreaking new theory. It can be as simple as explaining what your business is about. If you don’t know what to write about just go to your inbox. Read past emails, often the same questions come up.

Step Two – Outline Your Post
Break your post down into a three-part “how-to.” If it’s not a “how-to” kind of topic simply break it down into 3 main ideas. This is just a framework to get you started and keep things simple, don’t worry if you find that two or four parts makes more sense for your topic, just go with what works.

(By the way, when breaking down your topic you will probably get more ideas that you can spin off into new blog posts – creating more fodder for your blog.)

Step Three – Write The Dang Thing
Now that you have the outline written, fill in your ideas with a rough draft. Don’t filter yourself, just get the ideas on the page. Beware of industry jargon. Pretend a customer is sitting in front of you and write down what you would say to them. After you have all your ideas on the page, proofread your post. Read it aloud to catch all grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.

There you have it! A blog post from scratch.

For bonus points, come up with a catchy headline. Curiosity and humor always do well, and don’t be afraid to be a little goofy!
